Once upon a time, Adria Karlsson may have been found teaching people, training cats and dogs, or tutoring dyslexic kids, but now they spend their time writing and illustrating while parenting 5 kids, 1 puppy, a patient old dog, and a cat that abides them all.
As evidence of the unexpected twists and turns that led them to writing and illustrating, they hold an MAT in Elementary Education from Brown University and an Ed.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis from Simmons University. They received their MFA in Creative Writing, with a focus in Writing for Young People, from Lesley University in January 2023. Their debut picture book My Sister, Daisy was published by Capstone in 2021 and was recognized by the Children’s Book Council as a 2022 Notable Social Studies Trade Book for Young People.
Setting off on this journey as an author/illustrator has been the best kind of adventure, because now they get to spend their time asking lots of questions, figuring out answers, and sharing what they’ve learned through make-believe. And that’s definitely its own kind of happily ever after.
